What cookies are

Cookies are small text files your browser stores when you visit a website. Similar technologies, such as the browser’s local storage (localStorage), work the same way; in this policy “cookies” covers them too.

Cookies set by this website itself are first-party cookies. Cookies set by other companies on their own domains (for example Google or Meta) are third-party cookies.

Who is responsible

The controller for drnikosilia.com and for the processing described here is Dr Nikos Ilia, psychologist, 17 Nikodimou Milona, 3095 Limassol – Cyprus.

Necessary

The website stores only your cookie choice in your browser (in localStorage, under the name drnikosilia-consent): which categories you allowed, when, and for which version of this policy. It is not sent anywhere and stays until you change it or clear this website’s data in your browser. It is needed to respect your choice, so it does not require consent.

The website has no user accounts and uses no session cookies. The contact form sends your message by email to Dr Ilia through the email delivery service Resend; it stores no cookies or data in your browser.

The website is hosted by Cloudflare. If Cloudflare’s protection against automated traffic is active, it may set a strictly necessary security cookie (__cf_bm, 30 minutes).

Analytics (Google Analytics)

With your consent, the website uses Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Limited) to measure which pages are read, how visitors find the website (for example from a search or social media) and key actions such as pressing “Book a session”, calling from a phone or successfully sending the contact form. The content of the form and your contact details are not sent to Google.

Google signals and ad personalisation are switched off. According to Google, Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses.

  • _ga: tells visitors apart · 2 years
  • _ga_<ID>: keeps the state of the visit · 2 years

Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR).

Marketing (Meta Pixel)

With your consent, the website uses the Meta Pixel (Meta Platforms Ireland Limited) only on the book page, to measure how well ads for the book on Facebook and Instagram work (for example whether someone opened the buying options, chose a bookshop or downloaded the sample) and so that Meta can show related ads. On every other page (services, articles, contact) the Meta Pixel never loads, so Meta receives no information about which mental-health topics you read or whether you book an appointment. Meta may link the book-page information to your Facebook or Instagram account under its own privacy policy.

  • _fbp (first-party): tells visitors apart for ad measurement · 3 months
  • _fbc (first-party, only when you arrive from a Meta ad): records the ad click · 3 months
  • fr (third-party, on facebook.com): showing and measuring ads · 3 months

Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR).

External content (Google Maps)

The contact page can show a Google map of the office. The map does not load automatically: it appears only when you press “Show map”, or if you have allowed it (with “I consent”, or by switching on “External content” in the cookie settings). When it loads, Google receives your IP address and may set its own cookies on google.com, such as NID (up to 6 months), under Google’s privacy policy.

The “Open in Google Maps” link and the links to Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn are plain links: nothing loads from those services until you follow them.

Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR).

Changing or withdrawing your consent

You can change your choice at any time with the “Cookie settings” button at the bottom of every page, or here:

Withdrawing consent applies from then on and does not affect anything done lawfully before. When you withdraw consent, the website stops using Google Analytics or the Meta Pixel (from the next page you open at the latest) and deletes their first-party cookies (_ga, _ga_<ID>, _fbp, _fbc) as far as your browser allows. Third-party cookies, such as Meta’s fr or Google’s cookies on google.com, cannot be deleted by this website; you can delete them in your browser settings.

Browser settings

All modern browsers let you see, delete or block cookies and clear the data a website has stored. If you clear this website’s data, you will be asked for your choice again. The website works normally without optional cookies.

Transfers outside the EEA

Google and Meta may process data outside the European Economic Area, mainly in the United States. Both companies state that they participate in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and use standard contractual clauses where required.

Your rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR, Regulation (EU) 2016/679) you have, where applicable, the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection and data portability, and the right to withdraw your consent at any time. For any of these, email drnikosilia@drnikosilia.com.

If you believe the processing of your data breaks the law, you can complain to the supervisory authority in Cyprus, the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection (www.dataprotection.gov.cy).

Changes to this policy

This policy is updated when the services the website uses change; the date at the top of the page shows the latest update. If a change concerns the cookies you were asked to consent to, you will be asked for your choice again.
